Good question. Unfortunately, the answer is ‘away.’ The Brass Tap has been a staple of the Brandon-area craft beer scene for the better part of this century. But after leading the craft-beer charge in the eastern part of Hillsborough county, the Brass Tap at the Brandon/Westfield mall will be closing its doors for good February 16.
What happened to the Brandon Brass Tap? Well, like most things, the answer is likely to be very complicated. It’s a fact that nationwide, malls have seen a dip in foot traffic with the increase in online shopping. It’s for this reason, that malls are also diversifying and changing their mix of offerings in an effort to appeal to more people. The real answer though, we may never know.
What we do know is the best part of Brass Tap Brandon, was the great taplist and amazing staff. We spent many nights there sharing pints with friends. They were very knowledgeable about the beers they decided to put on tap and made sure all bartenders and servers knew enough to help you find a beer you’d enjoy. Two things that are rarefied air in Brandon, Riverview, Valrico, and beyond, as you search for businesses who truly care for craft beer.
While there are several remaining Brass Taps, none are a close drive for Brandon-area consumers. But if you’re looking for an alternative to the Brass Tap with the same kind of knowledgeable staff and killer tap list, look no further than FR Bottle Shop, located about two miles or so from the Brass Tap Brandon.
So, while The Brass Tap might not be in the mall anymore, a carefully curated rotating set of tap lines is right around the corner. You may not be able to find the nearest Brass Tap in the eastern part of the County anymore, but the FR Bottle Shop is here to fill that void with specialty bottles, local beer and friendly, informative knowledge.
